Tattoo Aftercare

I hope you're excited about your new tattoo! To help your new tattoo achieve healthy healing and longevity, I've listed a couple of easy-to-follow procedures.

The cling wrap placed at the end of your session must remain over your tattoo for the first two hours after the tattoo. This step is suitable for your tattoo, promoting the first step in healing. After two hours, please remove the cling wrap and rinse off your tattoo with antibacterial soap.

Please use: DIAL antibacterial pump soap. It is okay if the soap is lightly scented. Use unscented soap if you prefer.

The healing ointment you're going to buy is Aquaphor healing ointment.

Wash your tattoo twice a day (morning and night) with antibacterial soap. When washing and rinsing, do not rub your tattoo, lightly tap the surface with soap lather and let water cascade off to rinse. Let the tattoo air-dry.

Once the tattoo has dried down, seal the tattoo by stretching a bead of Aquaphor. (If you need more, use ointment in small dabs, but do not cake it on.)

Be mindful of your tattoo when sleeping. Rest in positions that allow your tattoo to breathe while avoiding direct contact with your sheets or pets.

 Scab Troubleshooting:

Sometimes during the tattoo process, areas of the tattoo will have some scabbing. Scabs become more apparent once the tattoo starts healing. When you shower, those areas will be more delicate. Please do not touch them. Let them dry every time as the scabbing process continues. Apply ointment as regular over scabs.

Avoid touching the tattoo as it scabs; you may experience very itchy skin. Please do not scratch the skin above the tattoo.

Adhesive Bandage Aftercare

Adhesive bandages (Saniderm, Tegaderm, etc.) are excellent for wet healing your tattoo – they create a healing barrier. It can be left in place for up to a week after healing.

These tips will help you take care of your tattoo properly.

If you have a single-color tattoo, such as black and grey, you can leave the bandage on for 3-5 days. Build-up and seepage will be present during the remainder of your tattoo. Don't poke any air bubbles or play with your bandage. Let the healing process take place, and remove after the time frame.

If you have a full-color tattoo, the first piece of adhesive bandage applied will have to be removed the next day in a warm shower (only if necessary). Wash and rinse your tattoo with soap and water, and pat dry with a paper towel. Apply the adhesive bandage carefully and make sure no air is trapped underneath. It's okay if tiny air bubbles get trapped.

Leave the bandage on for the next 3-5 days.

Seepage, ink, and plasma will build up under the bandage. It will look muddy and murky, but don't worry; your tattoo will be okay. Don't pick at your tattoo bandage.

Ensure the skin is in a neutral position when applying for ideal comfort. When applying to elbows and knees, the joint should be neutral, neither straight nor completely bent.

Practice before you apply. If it's your first time using an adhesive bandage. It may be a little tricky to work with it. It doesn't hurt to practice with a small section first; make sure you shave the area. You can also watch a YouTube video to help you.

When showering, don't use loofahs or scratchy washcloths around the bandage.
